"My Canoe Buddy"- Born of necessity to deliver independence!
As someone who truly enjoys the freedom and beauty of the outdoors, canoeing and paddling our lakes and rivers has always been an important part of my life.
While I have always transported a canoe strapped atop a vehicle, loading and unloading the unwieldy weight of my canoe was becoming more difficult. Avoiding damaging the vehicles expensive finish or the side mirror while loading or unloading was becoming a challenge. Often, besides the weight, wind became an enemy. At times, even with the help of a friend, loading my canoe was a struggle and sometimes comical sight. My vehicle’s roof wasn’t getting any higher, my canoe not any heavier. Instead, I was just a little bit older and more physically limited.
Not nearly ready to hang up the “ol’ paddle”, and with a background in mechanical design, I started fabricating and building prototypes for a tool that would make loading and unloading my canoe easier. I had three important criteria: minimize and re-distribute the canoe’s weight and balance, increase safety for myself and my vehicle, and to be portable to function both at home and in the field.
A few prototypes later along with extensive field testing, "My Canoe Buddy" was born. My new device met all my design criteria. "My Canoe Buddy" became a wonderful adaptive aid performing everything I expected to do.
Other people and friends who saw me using "My Canoe Buddy" often commented or asked, “Where did you get that?” and “I would like one of these too.” In May, 2014 I created Myka LLC to manufacture and sell the new "My Canoe Buddy" so that others, with similar circumstances of my own, could continue to pursue their own enjoyment of canoeing.
"My Canoe Buddy" offers you, whether male or female, young or old, an effective adaptive aid to single handedly easily and safely load or unload your canoe to help keep you on the water.
"My Canoe Buddy" is 100% made in the USA.
Myka LLC is located on the shore of Lake Michigan in Sheboygan “The Spirit of the Lake", Wisconsin.
Stay on the water,
